First Steering Committee Meeting between Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and Director General for Civil Aviation (DGAC), France was held in Kathmandu in 10 July 2018. The Meeting organized pursuant to the provision of Technical Cooperation program signed in 14 September 2017. The Meeting was led from CAAN side by Mr. Rajan Pokhrel, Deputy Director General, Civil Aviation Safety Regulation Directorate and from DGAC, France side by Mr. Karim Bekkouche, Director, International Cooperation of Middle East and South Asia. The objective of this program is to support the strengthening of the safety oversight capability of CAAN.

The Steering Committee evaluated the progress achieved during the first semester till June 2018 and agreed on the work-plan for second semester ending on Dec 2018. DGAC France has extended assistance in the areas of Flight Operations and Airworthiness through IAS and Airbus funding. Two experts from IAS are working with Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal since May 2017. They are supporting CAAN Safety Inspectors in audit, certification, documentation and training to CAAN and Industry people. Similarly, DGAC is providing scholarship to CAAN officials for training courses in the areas of Safety Management, Procedure designing, Airworthiness, Flight Operations and Aeronautical Information Management.
